Overview
Thomas Mangold founded the firm that has grown into Mangold Anker Phillips in 1991 after spending almost seven years in accounting and management roles at one of the largest national retailers. He has over 25 years of experience advising clients in a variety of industries regarding valuation, mergers and acquisitions, aircraft tax matters, partnership taxation, accounting information systems, and advanced tax planning. Thomas has also served as a consulting expert on a variety of litigation matters in support of shareholder disputes, professional malpractice, economic damages, bankruptcy, forensic accounting, and family law cases.
Experience
In 1990, he founded the firm that grew into The Mangold Group, CPAs, PC (TMG) then Mangold Anker Phillips PLLC (MAP) while attending The University of Texas at Austin. TMG became one of Austin’s top 25 CPA firm through Thomas’ leadership. In 2020, he Mangold Group, CPAs, PC and Phillips Anker, PC merged to become Mangold Anker Phillips, PLLC, where Thomas leads its advisory and valuation practice.
Thomas has experience working with entrepreneurs by creating the overarching strategy for business, helping craft exit targets, dealing with cases to reach a settlement, and assisting in succession planning. He also works with attorneys in helping clients navigate issues related to business partners, business acquisitions, and litigation strategies. Thomas’ specialties are software design and interfaces, oil and gas tax, construction, valuation, and aviation.
He has a hands-on approach to problem-solving and presents a personal interest in each client’s success, which drives the growth of Mangold Anker Phillips.
Education & Affiliations
Thomas earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin. He is Accredited in Business Valuation by the AICPA from 2010 to present. Thomas is also an AICPA Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants since 2006. Thomas also has a Private Pilot License from the Federal Aviation Administration.
