Anita Bales Retires from DCAA

Aprio would like to wish Director Anita Bales congratulations on her retirement from the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA)!

Aprio’s Government Contract Compliance Team works with contractors to help them coordinate with auditors and prepare for various upcoming DCAA audits. During this process we provide advice and suggestions on corrective actions, offer resolutions to questions from auditors, and coordinate responses and supporting data for the draft audit report. Throughout Ms. Bales’ tenure, we have had great conversations on policy and regulation requirements with her and the DCAA team. It’s been a pleasure working in coordination with her.

Ms. Bales’ esteemed career began in the ‘80s as an auditor with the U.S. Army Audit Agency and culminated in her position as Director of DCAA.  She was honored in a retirement ceremony on January 28, 2022 hosted by the Undersecretary of Defense/Comptroller, Mr. Michael McCord. Throughout her civil service career, she served in Illinois, Missouri, Virginia, and overseas in Frankfurt, Germany. She served with the DCAA for the last 11 years, and as Director of the Agency since 2014.

Her extraordinary accomplishments include graduating from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Magna Cum Laude). She then graduated at the top of her class from Syracuse University, New York with a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Ms. Bales has the following professional certifications: Certified Public Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor, and Certified Government Financial Manager. She is a member of the American Society of Military Comptrollers and serves on the Professional Advisory Board at Drake University, School of Accounting.
